Life and work
Introduction
Ashraf Khan Hijri was a son of Khushal Khan Khattak, a poet, and an important member of the Khattak literary family. Mughal authorities imprisoned him and sent him to the Deccan in India.
Separation from homeland and family, imprisonment, love, and inward suffering recur throughout Hijri's work. His Pashto divan is a major literary record of exile.
One of the earliest and strongest classical Pashto voices of exile and separation.
